DESKRIPSI

The maintenance of physical assets can no longer be treated as an ‘engineering problem’. The competitive environment in which business operates requires an approach that integrates the operational objectives of the business and the life-cycle objectives of the physical assets. Leading industrial organizations are evolving away from reactive (“fix-it-when-it-breaks”) management into predictive, productive management (“anticipating, planning, and fix-it-before-it-breaks”). This evolution requires well-planned and executed actions on several fronts.

Organisations increasingly need to make improvement a key part of theirculture in order to remain cost competitive. The same is true of Maintenance Organisations. Maintenance Departments are increasingly under pressure to improve performance and reduce costs. This program looks at Maintenance Auditing and Benchmarking as two key tools that can be used as the basis for driving the improvement process in maintenance, by identifying best practices, gaps with current practices and assist with the formulation of strategies to bridge such gaps.In addition, we address how Auditing and Benchmarking can become an integral part of a maintenance management strategy by integrating such activities into maintenance performance measures, key performance indicators and objective setting.(cg)

DESCRIPTION

To improve reliability of plant, many companies implement predictive maintenance program that using various technology to monitor machine health and eliminate at least reduce unplanned breakdown and extend MTBF of machine.

As vibration, oil analysis is important technology in monitoring critical machine. Gearbox and turbine are examples machines that more powerful if monitored using oil analysis technology.

Common problem that occurred are method and procedure of sampling oil, interpretation of oil analysis report and non integration of oil analysis report with other technology like vibration. This course explain how to good sample method, how to analyze data, interpret report and how to integrate oil analysis data with vibration to build comprehensive report.

DESCRIPTION

The science of combustion, as complex as it is, can be summed up simply; it’s the process by which fuel is turned into energy through a heating process. Combustion Engineering concerns the science of combustion as it applies to industry.

Most energy consumed today is derived from fossil fuels, but the world’s dependence on oil and coal cannot continue indefinitely. Our reliance on these fuels will need to be supplemented with other forms of energy, whether nuclear or a yet undiscovered source. Combustion Engineering may very well be at the forefront of developing new technologies in fuel consumption. As the global need for energy efficiency intensifies and the search for new, environmentally sustainable fuels increases, the need for combustion engineers will expand. Energy will remain a huge industry where skill and innovation will be in high demand. Individuals with degrees in Combustion Engineering will be responsible for planning and implementing new combustion systems and equipment.(evp)

OBJECTIVE

On completion of the module, students should be able to:

Explain the basic concepts of combustion chemistry, the thermodynamic reasons that make a combustion reaction possible, and the factors that affect the reaction rate.

Distinguish different types of flames from their morphology, and explain how different combustion mechanisms are related to macroscopic qualitative features

Explain the ignition mechanism, and construct simple mathematical models to capture the main features of spontaneous and forced ignition.

Describe the features of flame propagation, estimate the flame velocity and thickness through simple calculations, explain the conditions that determine flame extinction.

Describe the properties of different fuels, and choose the appropriate technologies to use them.
